Local Government Law

Guynn & Waddell, P.C., provides a variety of services to local governments, governmental agencies, and public officials. The firm serves as local government attorney for several local governments and regularly advises and counsels governmental entities, including authorities and commissions, and constitutional officers throughout Virginia on a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, planning and zoning, economic development, purchasing and contracts, ordinances, resolutions and policies, personnel matters, administrative investigations, and compliance with state and federal law. The firm’s attorneys regularly provide training to employees and supervisors on the law, policies, and procedures in order to comply with the law and best practices.

The firm is well known for its litigation services in the defense of claims and lawsuits against local governments, school boards, public officials, and officials and employees of these entities across the Commonwealth. The firm represents these clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts, before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and in grievance hearings. The cases include those involving land use issues, Section 1983 claims, Title VII claims, breach of contract, construction law, wrongful termination, malicious prosecution, negligence and gross negligence claims, and virtually all issues facing public entities, officials, and employees.
