Paul Mahoney Transitions to New Public Role

January 2, 2020

Our friend and (now former) colleague, Paul Mahoney, left GWCL at the first of the year to serve as the new Cave Spring representative on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors. We are excited for Paul’s new public role in the community and are proud of his achievement to elected office. Since we provide legal services to the County, Paul thought it best to leave the firm to prevent potential conflicts of interest. It was a pleasure working with Paul during these past few years, and we wish him every success in his new role with the County.

Prior to leaving, Paul shared with us the following sentiments:

“My 4 years serving “Of Counsel” with GWCL were both professionally and personally rewarding. While I am sad to leave, I do not want to subject the firm or me to the appearance of impropriety, or to violate the ethical rules of the Bar.

I admire the professional knowledge and skills of the GWCL attorneys, appreciate the dedication of the staff, and value the many friendships forged during my time with the firm. I enjoyed providing legal advice and assistance to the elected and appointed officials of our local government clients, and will miss the collaborative style of addressing our clients’ litigation needs, public policy concerns, and legal challenges.  I learned much from my work with GWCL, proving it is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.  I also believe that the strength and foundation of our Republic is based upon our system of local government, and look forward to serving my community as an elected local official.”
